If you’re exploring the world of online surveys, MyPoints may have come up. MyPoints offers users a way to get paid to answer survey questions, shop, and complete short tasks, but you may be wondering, “Is MyPoints legit? And can you really get paid to take surveys?”

In this MyPoints review, we’ll discuss how MyPoints works, how you can maximize your earnings, and some pros and cons to help you determine if it’s the best choice for you.

What is MyPoints?

MyPoints is an online rewards program that allows members to earn points by shopping online, taking surveys, watching videos, and playing games. These points can then be redeemed for gift cards, cash, or travel miles.

MyPoints has been around for over two decades, which is certainly an achievement for any online platform in this space. MyPoints is owned by Prodege, LLC, which also operates Swagbucks and InboxDollars, two other popular rewards programs.

How Does MyPoints Work?

To get started, you need to create a MyPoints account with your basic information and password. You can also download the mobile app for Apple or Android devices. Once you’re in, there are several earning opportunities.

  • Taking surveys: MyPoints partners with market research companies to offer surveys on a wide range of topics. These typically take between 5 to 20 minutes to complete and can earn you between 50 to 400 points on average, with some surveys paying up to 2,200 per survey. Sometimes, MyPoints also offers a range of short product feedback polls to longer market research projects.
  • Shopping online: If you shop through MyPoints’ partner retailers, you can earn a percentage of your purchase back in points. This usually ranges from 1% to 10%, depending on the retailer, but you are paid initially in points, so you’ll receive up to 20 points per $1 spent.
  • Watching videos: This is another way to start earning points. You can earn points by watching short video clips, usually only a few minutes long. You may need to watch multiple videos to earn a significant number of points.
  • Playing games: If you’re a fan of online games, MyPoints offers the opportunity to earn points by playing games on their platform.

How Much Can You Earn?

Your earning potential on MyPoints depends on many factors, such as the number of surveys available to you, their length, and how many you can complete each day. Individual surveys pay an average of 125 to 1,000 points or more, depending on their length and complexity.

One point is typically equal to $0.006. MyPoints offers a $5 signup bonus when you first join the platform, which adds up to a little over 800 points. Keep in mind that 480 points are roughly equivalent to $3, and MyPoints surveys can take anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes to complete, so there is definitely a time investment.

MyPoints doesn’t disclose a minimum payout threshold, but you can often find gift cards to redeem your rewards for as low as $3 or $5. If you prefer to redeem for a higher amount, you can always wait until you have enough points.

Like many other survey sites, using MyPoints won’t make you rich, but it can provide a little extra cash each month without a lot of effort and energy.

Rewards Redemption Options

MyPoints allows you to redeem points for gift cards or online certificates from online stores, restaurants, airlines, and hotels. You’ll find gift card options for popular merchants like Walmart, Best Buy, Home Depot, and more. If you prefer to use your rewards for online shopping, there are several retailer partners to choose from, so you can use your points like coupons.

Redeeming points for payouts is easy; you just need to log into your account and click on the gift box icon in the upper right-hand corner. This takes you to the rewards page so you can view your redemption options. Click on the reward option and the amount you wish to redeem. Then, re-log into your account to verify and click the ‘Get Rewarded’ button.

If you’re looking to redeem your rewards similarly to cashback, the best option is to redeem for a PayPal gift card. That way, you can send the money to your PayPal account to redeem it as cash.

Making the Most of MyPoints

The key to making MyPoints surveys worthwhile is consistency. Log in regularly to check for new survey opportunities. Keep your profile updated, as surveys are often targeted based on demographics and consumer habits. Additionally, consistency helps build a profile that may lead to a higher volume of survey offers. To remain consistent, you can set a daily goal for how many surveys you want to take.

Completing surveys with careful consideration and thought will yield a better overall experience. Rushed or inconsistent answers can result in being disqualified to participate in a paid survey opportunity during the pre-screening stage.

When presented with a survey opportunity that you think you’d be a good fit for, here are some steps to follow:

  1. Read the instructions carefully before starting a survey.
  2. Always answer honestly and thoughtfully.
  3. Pay attention to details, as some surveys may include attention-check questions.
  4. Take your time, and don’t rush through the survey.
  5. Be consistent in your answers – changing responses too frequently may lead to disqualification.

Alternatives to MyPoints

If MyPoints isn’t quite what you’re looking for, there are several other survey sites to consider. To maximize your earnings, you may want to try some of these options in addition to using MyPoints.

Branded Surveys

Branded Surveys is another popular survey site that offers various ways to earn points, including taking surveys, completing daily polls and challenges, and even referring friends. Points can be redeemed for rewards such as gift cards or PayPal cash.

Survey Junkie

Survey Junkie is a straightforward survey site where you can earn points for completing surveys on various topics. The website says you can earn around $40 per month if you complete three surveys daily. Once you have a $5 balance, points can be redeemed for cash via PayPal or gift cards to popular retailers.

Mindswarms

While Mindswarms is not a traditional survey site, it offers a unique way to earn money by participating in video surveys. Each survey pays $50 and consists of answering seven open-ended questions via webcam or smartphone video. This may be an appealing option for those who prefer a more personal touch.

InboxDollars

InboxDollars is another survey site that offers various ways to earn points, such as taking surveys, watching videos, and playing games. Points can be redeemed for cash or gift cards. When you join, you can also receive a $5 bonus.

Pros and Cons

Pros:

  • A variety of activities to earn points, including surveys, shopping online, watching videos, and playing games
  • Points can be redeemed for cash or gift cards or go toward travel purchases like hotels.
  • Earn money through online shopping at partner retailers as well
  • Opportunity to earn a $5 signup bonus
  • They have a 4.4-star out of 5 from Trustpilot

Cons:

  • It doesn’t pay the best compared to other survey sites
  • You may not qualify for some survey opportunities
  • It takes time and effort to earn a substantial amount of points

MyPoints Review Wrapup

MyPoints is a legitimate way to make money online by taking surveys and completing various activities. While online survey sites may not be the most lucrative option, it can be a practical side hustle for those willing to put in the time and effort but not ready to commit to a regular job.

If you’re looking for extra cash to pay for a restaurant meal with friends or an Amazon gift card, earning money when you watch videos or share your thoughts isn’t a bad option. With these strategies and tips, you can maximize your earnings and make the most out of your MyPoints experience.
